AngelEye

AngelEye Cameras are a one-way communication tool that enable you to view live video of your baby at any time (provided the child is not receiving care). Learn More Here! >>

BlueJeans:

BlueJeans app is a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing service that is offered to enhance communication and enable remote visitation. Parents are also able to have conference calls/family meetings with your care team. Download the app and ask your baby’s nurse for the security code for your baby.

"Lovie"

The sense of smell is one of the first sensory systems to develop. Your baby can recognize your smell. Place the lovie in your shirt and then bring it back while your baby is in an isolette. Exposure to a mother’s scent promotes calming and can improve breathing.

Meal Vouchers

Meal vouchers may be available upon request. If you would like a lunch or dinner meal, please let our unit coordinator at the front desk know.

Common NICU Conditions

Newborn Screenings

  • Newborn Screen (NBS/PKU) - While your infant is in the NICU they will receive some routine testing. All infants will have a newborn screen (Phenylketonuria, PKU) test done. A blood sample is taken and is sent to the state for testing. Click here to download pamphlet for more information on this test.
  • Cardiac Screen (CCHD) - A cardiac screening will also be completed at this time to screen for a possible congenital heart defect. This is a simple test where a pulse oximetry machine is placed on the infant’s right hand and foot to measure the amount of oxygen in the infant’s blood. Low oxygen levels can be a sign of congenital heart defects and will be further investigated. This test is painless and only take a few minutes.
  • Hearing Screen - When the infant is ready to be discharged a hearing screen will be completed on the infant. This screening is painless and only takes a few minutes.

Follow-Up Care After Discharge from the NICU

  • Choose a Pediatrician
  • Early Intervention - While all children grow and change at their own rate, some children have delays in their development. Early Intervention provides support and services to children under age 3 with developmental delays to help the child develop. Services (at no cost to the family) build on existing family, community and early education resources. Service Coordinators help each family to get helpful services and supports.

If we feel your infant may qualify, our social worker will refer you to the Early Intervention program when your baby leaves the NICU. You will receive a call from a Service Coordinator who will schedule a home visit to get more information and explain the Early Intervention screening process. The Service Coordinator will guide your family through the screening process and help to arrange services if needed.

Hospitals, physicians, specialists, caregivers, and families may contact the program to refer a child at 610-344-5948 or electronically by clicking this link: EI Referral - Formatta iFiller (chesco.org)
