Clinical Instructor:
Will not perform point of care testing, such as glucometer, due to the process required for competency assessment to meet regulatory requirements.
Are accountable for supervising all medication administration and procedures performed by students.
Will communicate with staff RNs assigned to your SNs patients.
Delineate responsibilities so everyone is clear with all aspects of care; e.g. what the student nurse will do, and what you will directly supervise the student nurse perform.
Give your name and contact information to the RN and student nurse
Clinical instructors provide direct supervision for all forms of medication administration. Direct means the clinical instructors reviews the med orders with the student nurse and the clinical instructor pulls the med(s) from Omnicell, and the clinical instructor is with the student nurse supervising complete med preparation and administration.

Student nurses
do not
have access to Omnicell.
Communicate with the RN when the student nurse is off of the unit and the clinical instructor/student nurse give report to the RN before leaving the unit at the end of the student nurse's shift.
Chester County Hospital RNs work with student nurse s and allow student nurse's to observe them perform care and will allow SNs to perform basic aspects of care; e.g. patient hygiene if the instructor is not present, but the instructor must be present to supervise nursing procedures performed by the student nurse.
Will not assign students to patients with active COVID diagnosis.
Will communicate required compliance with COVID screening process to students.
Will read their Chester County Hospital email to stay current on important updates.
Will complete all required education.
Will ensure students follow all social distancing and PPE guidelines, and other policies.
Clinical instructor will not assign students to a preceptor that is their direct supervisor if they are a Chester County Hospital employee.
