Do you have a family history of stroke, heart disease or diabetes? Do you smoke? Are you 55 or older? If you answered yes to any one of these questions, you may be at risk for peripheral vascular disease.
Put your mind at ease by scheduling a peripheral vascular screening. It is a painless, non-invasive screening and takes only 30 minutes.
Testing Includes:
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening: an ultrasound of the aorta, the body's primary artery. This scan can detect the presence of an aneurysm.
- Carotid scan: an ultrasound of the carotid arteries in the neck and blood pressure to check for hypertension. This can detect one of the most frequent causes of stroke - significant internal carotid artery stenosis.
- Ankle brachial index: a comparison of the blood pressure readings from the arms and legs. This exam can quickly determine if there is an impairment in the circulation to the limbs due to peripheral vascular disease.
All screenings are performed by certified Chester County Hospital technologists. Results are reviewed by a board-certified vascular surgeon who is a member of Chester County Hospital's medical staff.

The peripheral vascular screening does not require a physician's prescription. The fee is $79. To learn more or to make an appointment, please call 610-738-2771.
