Since 2014, Dr. John Kucharczuk has been seeing patients for consultations at Chester County Hospital, working closely with the entire multidisciplinary cancer team here. He also sees patients at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. He is an expert thoracic surgeon for a variety of both benign (not cancerous) and malignant diseases of the chest, including:
- Lung cancer
- Esophageal cancer
- Mediastinal tumors
He performs surgeries at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, giving Chester County patients access to the most advanced techniques and additional surgical specialists as needed. For esophageal cancer surgeries, for example, he collaborates with Penn Medicine’s gastrointestinal surgery team, including the chief of GI surgery.
Dr. Kucharczuk is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his post-graduate training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, including residencies in surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. He also completed a research training fellowship through the Thoracic Oncology Research Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery; a fellow of the American College of Surgeons; and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgery and the Pennsylvania Association for Thoracic Surgery.
For most of Dr. Kucharczuk’s patients, presurgical tests such as bloodwork, echocardiograms (or EKG), and pulmonary function tests can be done at Chester County Hospital. Our team-based approach and use of the MyChart by myPennMedicine electronic health record allow for seamless care transitions. This means that patients have direct access to Dr. Kucharczuk’s surgical expertise without making frequent trips downtown.
