The Abramson Cancer Center offers advanced therapies for cancers of the thorax, the area of the body between the neck and abdomen. The most common thoracic cancers are lung cancer and esophageal cancer, but our team of specialists treats all cancers of the chest cavity, including mediastinal tumors, which grow in the space in between the lungs (called the mediastinum), as well as cancers that spread to the chest from other parts of the body.

Chester County Hospital has a multidisciplinary team that includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, pathologists, radiologists, nurses, and rehabilitation specialists. John C. Kucharczuk, MD, Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Penn Medicine, sees patients at the Abramson Cancer Center West Chester* for diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow up. When surgery is part of the treatment plan, it is performed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In most cases, patients can access all other services right here, close to home.

The thoracic oncology team gathers monthly for case conferences to discuss the treatment plan for selected patients. Patients get the benefit of having the entire team together to develop a plan tailored to his or her specific situation.
