On Friday September 21, 2018, Chester County Hospital celebrated the grand opening of the newly expanded and fully renovated Moore Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The state-of-the-art facility has nearly doubled in size and now accommodates 15 infant beds and a hybrid model that allows space for parents to stay overnight with their infants. The NICU hosts a family friendly atmosphere and provides the highest level of neonatal care in the county. Community supporters, Auxiliary members, hospital leadership, and NICU staff members gathered to celebrate this important milestone. However, what is especially inspiring, is that the entire NICU renovation was completely funded by philanthropic support.
Through her legacy, Nancy Virginia Moore played an instrumental role in the NICU expansion. Nancy was extremely devoted to Chester County Hospital. She was the former president and longtime member of The Women’s Auxiliary, a member of The 1892 Society, and often made significant capital gifts to hospital campaigns. But perhaps her greatest impact on the community, is the extraordinary bequest Nancy left to the hospital in her will. Nancy generously left the bulk of her estate to the hospital with an estimated value of $3.5 million. Her impactful gift was an integral part of funding the NICU renovation. The new facility, Moore Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, has been named in Nancy’s honor.
Nancy's legacy will live on through the generations of families who will benefit from the dynamic NICU facilities and through the good work of The Women's Auxiliary to Chester County Hospital. In tandem with Nancy’s bequest, The Women’s Auxiliary completed their ‘Birth of an Era’ pledge. Through their numerous community events and dedicated fundraising efforts, the Auxiliary donated a total of $1.25 million to benefit the NICU renovation and expansion.
This entire project, fully funded through the aforementioned philanthropy, and many other generous donors, is a true testament to the power of our devoted community. Together we are expanding the world class care provided at Chester County Hospital, adding transformative programs and leading edge technology to care for our family, friends, and neighbors.
