Local and loyal are two key qualities that retired physician Pamela P. Scott, MD uses in describing her philanthropy and community engagement. A pioneering physician and surgeon in the areas of Womens Health and Breast Health in Chester County, PA, Dr. Scott feels a strong sense of loyalty to her local community.
"My whole career has been spent caring for the people of Chester County," says Dr. Scott. "It is important for me to give back to a community that gave me so much over the years."
This philosophy inspired Dr. Scott to stay involved in many meaningful ways at Chester County Hospital. She has played an active role in the planning process for the Breast Health Center project, which has included research with current and former breast cancer patients at Abramson Cancer Center at Chester County Hospital. In this endeavor, Dr. Scott joined the hospital's Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC), as they conducted an interview process to gain critical knowledge about the breast cancer patient experience and how it could be improved and enhanced.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Scott joined fellow retired physicians and active hospital team members in donating her time at several COVID-19 vaccination clinics that were hosted by Chester County Hospital throughout the community. These clinics, many of which were in Coatesville churches and the Penn Medicine Southern Chester County medical facility, provided life-saving vaccines for thousands of underserved Chester County residents.
Local philanthropy is an important area of focus for Dr. Scott and her husband, Razaullah (Raza) Khwaja, MD. They have made significant financial investments in support of the hospital and its Breast Health Center project.
"We have led simple and quiet lives, spending most of our working years caring for our patients," shared Dr. Scott. "We are now fortunate enough to be in a position to be involved with philanthropic causes within our local community that are meaningful to us."
In addition, Drs. Scott and Khwaja have made arrangements in their estate plans to provide funds to support the Breast Health Center project, perpetuating their legacy of supporting women's health at Chester County Hospital for generations to come.
We are grateful to Drs. Scott and Khwaja for all the valuable ways they continue to care for their local community and for their generous philanthropy which will continue to support women's health initiatives well into the future.
