I am excited to announce that the Occupational Health Center has welcomed a new physician to our team -- Dr. Maura Lappin.
Dr. Lappin received her medical degree from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey. Around the time she started medical school, she was appointed as a commissioned officer (Captain) in the United Starts Army, and after graduation completed her internship at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Before continuing with her postgraduate medical training, Dr. Lappin served as a Battalion Surgeon with the 101st Airborne Division, including overseas deployment; now that she has completed her military service, she has enrolled in an Occupational Medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania, a "train-in-place" program that involves working in our clinic to complement her classroom responsibilities. She is also pursuing a Master of Public Health degree from the University of West Florida, as her residency requires. Dr. Lappin says she was drawn to Occupational Medicine as a logical segue from military medicine (where medical personnel match the health of the soldiers to the demands of their service, and treat work-related injuries and illnesses), and also because she enjoys the diversity of the field and the ability to apply her medical knowledge to a variety of industries and job titles.
Please join me in thanking Dr. Lappin for her military service, and welcoming her to our team.
