Hematologist/Oncologists are specialists trained to care for patients with blood disorders and cancer. They coordinate with the patient's primary care physician, surgeon, radiation oncologist and others to ensure that care is integrated.
Our hematologist/oncologists have long-standing relationships with the experts at the Abramson Cancer Center and frequently confer about patients and advances in cancer treatment. Further reflecting their commitment to providing leading-edge cancer care, our physicians regularly participate in regional and national medical conferences and seminars. They are affiliated with the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, a research consortium funded by the National Cancer Institute. This affiliation helps ensure our patients access to the latest cancer treatments available in the United States.

Nurse practitioners at the Abramson Cancer Center focus on the overall care of a patient with cancer. They are there from the moment someone is diagnosed to life-long surveillance and follow-up once treatment is completed. Nurse practitioners communicate with physicians about a patient's care plan and work with patient service representatives and nurses to ensure the plan is implemented. Our nurse practitioners are also experts in pain and symptom management, and prescribe medications needed to support patients at the beginning of chemotherapy and throughout their treatment schedule.
