With strong family values, a passion for local history, and their philanthropic spirit, Leon and Paula Anderson exemplify what it means to be loyal annual donors. “"The culture at Chester County Hospital is unlike anything you would encounter at a large city facility. We are grateful to have expert care right here at our community hospital," said Paula.
Paula and Leon Anderson are longtime residents of Chester County, both born and raised in West Chester, PA. Their strong connection and appreciation for Chester County Hospital is evident through their annual support over the past 15 years.
Paula and Leon share a mutual love of history and admire the hospital's prominent 130-year history in the community. Paula shared: "My relationship with Chester County Hospital goes back a long way. I was born at the hospital, two of my sisters were born at the hospital, all of our children (5) were born there, and our youngest daughter worked there after school delivering trays to patients. We also have a very large extended family, with almost 300 family members! Many of our family members have been treated at Chester County Hospital over the years. The hospital takes great care of our entire family and has always been there when we need it, so it is important to us to give back and support the hospital in return."
The Andersons started giving to the hospital after Leon was a patient for various procedures. Leon still has the heart pillow made by The Women's Auxiliary from his cardiac rehab treatment. "We love and appreciate the caring and warm culture of the entire staff, and the leadership of H. L. Perry Pepper (former president) and Michael Duncan (current president). The hospital has always been a well-run machine and joining forces with Penn Medicine has only enhanced the ability to serve the community and its employees. We consider Chester County Hospital to be a good steward."
When asked about the importance of giving annually to Chester County Hospital, Paula and Leon explained, "It is important to give what you can each year because there is always a new need that comes up and always something that can be improved, especially when it comes to healthcare. We think of Chester County Hospital as 'our hospital' and know it needs philanthropic support to remain strong, especially in the wake of other nearby hospitals closing."
We are grateful to Leon and Paula Anderson for their generous and dedicated support each year. Annual gifts like theirs are the cornerstone of our donor support. Chester County Hospital relies on annual gifts to strategically plan and continue to advance the level of care available to our growing community.
