Edna and Bud Pierce have much in common. They were both born in Pennsylvania, attended Pennsylvania State University, were married more than 40 years to their first spouses, and now are looking forward to 40 more years together as a married couple. They believe in supporting each other and organizations for which they care deeply. It was for this reason Edna and Bud chose to make a significant commitment to The Chester County Hospital Foundation's Capital Campaign.
The campaign - Advancing Care, Building Community, The Campaign for Chester County Hospital - was publicly announced in 2007. It is the most significant campaign in the Hospital's history. A primary goal of this initiative is to support the construction of the new West Pavilion Expansion. The Hospital's plans are for a four-story addition that will: (a) consolidate and integrate all cardiovascular services; (b) increase capacity by adding up to 72 beds; and (c) add surgical and interventional suites. The project will also include the completion of renovations to the Emergency Department. The Foundation's fundraising goal was to raise $25 million toward the cost of the West Pavilion project.
To date, the Hospital's Foundation has secured its fundraising goal raising more than $25 million from the support of board members, senior administrators, employees, medical staff, auxiliary members, volunteers, the community and Foundation benefactors. Because of their generous donations, the Hospital will be able to continue to meet the needs of the community, providing quality and compassionate care, in the most highly technical facility.
Edna and Bud attribute the reason for their support to be the quality care they have each received over the years. While most people Bud's age have been retired for a number of years, he is still working full-time as a financial planner for the Financial House in Centreville, Delaware. Bud's commitment to the Hospital is based on the care he has received during his long-running relationship with the Hospital. Bud was born here, has never been to another Hospital, and he likes knowing that Chester County Hospital's focus is always on the patient. Edna agrees. "Chester County Hospital has taken very good care of him, and that's why I support the Hospital," she says.
When asked what supporting Chester County Hospital and its initiatives means to them, Edna and Bud both agree they believe it is a privilege and their responsibility to give back. Bud's personal philosophy on philanthropy is this: "We are merely stewards of whatever God allows us to have, and we are expected to put His bounty to good use." The Chester County Hospital Foundation hopes that everyone who supports our mission takes pleasure in knowing they all have a hand in helping provide compassionate, high quality healthcare to all in our community, every day.
