Chester County Hospital One of Six Penn Medicine Hospitals to Receive Top Grade

(West Chester, PA) – All six Penn Medicine hospital entities were recently awarded an "A" by Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing hospitals' achievements protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.

Chester County Hospital was one of six Penn Medicine health system hospitals to receive an "A" grade for Spring 2023. Lancaster General Hospital, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania–Cedar Avenue, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital and Princeton Medical Center also each received an "A" grade for Spring 2023.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers focused on health care safety, assigns an "A", "B", "C", "D" or "F" grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm to patients in their care.

"This recognition is a result of the hard work of the hospital's medical staff and nurses each and every day. Their commitment to providing safe and compassionate care to our community is admirable, and I could not be prouder of their dedication," says Michael Duncan, President and CEO of Chester County Hospital.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
