Chester County Hospital Ranks #5 in the Region and #10 in the State!

(PHILADELPHIA, PA / WEST CHESTER, PA) — Penn Medicine hospitals have once again been ranked among the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The combined enterprise of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center was named to the magazine’s prestigious Honor Roll list for the 14th consecutive year, and twelve clinical specialties also received top rankings. HUP-PPMC ranked as the #1 hospital in Pennsylvania and #1 in the Philadelphia metro area, in the 2020-2021 annual survey by the magazine.

Out of more than 4,500 hospitals analyzed nationwide, Penn Medicine is among only 20 institutions to be named to this year’s Honor Roll, and the only one in the Philadelphia region. Hospitals must each perform near the top of the rankings in multiple specialties and conditions/treatments in order to earn a place on the Honor Roll.

Locally, Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA was ranked #5 in the Philadelphia region and #10 in the state – making it the only hospital in the county to appear in the state’s top 10. The hospital also received a national ranking for Diabetes and Endocrinology and was rated as high performing in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD), Heart Failure, Geriatrics, Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Pulmonology and Lung Surgery.

In speaking of the recognition Hospital President and CEO Michael Duncan stated, "Chester County Hospital relentlessly pursues new clinical services and higher levels of quality to provide the best care possible for our community. The recognition of those efforts from U.S. News & World Report is an honor and a testament to our frontline workers. Our workforce has endured many challenges this year as we opened the largest expansion in our history, and moved quickly into fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, and still sought opportunities to advance the level of care we provide. I am filled with pride and admiration for our staff."

The Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian were nationally ranked for excellence in 12 specialties, including Cancer, Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT), Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Gynecology, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Pulmonology & Lung Surgery, and Urology.

In addition to Chester County Hospital, all other Penn Medicine hospitals also netted honors: Lancaster General Health was ranked #4 in the state and nationally ranked in Orthopedics. Pennsylvania Hospital was ranked #4 in Philadelphia, #8 in the state, and was nationally ranked in Gynecology. Princeton Health was ranked #9 in New Jersey #24 in the New York Metro Area, and was recognized as High Performing in Orthopedics.

The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in its 31st year, recognize hospitals for their exceptional performance, based on outstanding quality, expertise, technology, and experience.
