Chester County Hospital's Wound Care Center Celebrates Wound Care Awareness Week

West Chester, PA - The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Chester County Hospital is raising awareness about chronic wounds. The third annual national Wound Care Awareness Week is being held from June 6 to June 10, 2016. Chester County Hospital offers advanced therapies to patients suffering from chronic wounds. The Program Director, Benjamin Wolf, will dedicate the entire week to reaching out to as many patients as possible to provide this needed service in the community we serve. In order to accomplish this, he will be visiting and speaking with the community of physicians throughout Chester County. The program will offer a full plan of care that is educated and executed to promote a healing outcome. This plan focuses on weekly nursing case management from the Wound Care Center's own team members.

It is estimated that chronic wounds affect 6.7 million people in the U.S. and the incidence is rising. Fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy. If left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to a diminished quality of life and possibly amputation of the affected limb.

"We see patients living with non-healing wounds for a prolonged amount of time due to the lack of awareness of advanced wound care options," says Dr. Salimi Wirjosemito, Medical Director. "We work to educate community physicians about which of their patients can benefit from advanced wound care, and then provide coordinated care to heal that patient's wounds."

"This program is here to systematically provide safe and cost effective quality care. With quality outcomes, this creates the longevity for the program and coordination that our patients deserve," says Benjamin Wolf. "This team truly expresses all compassion and kindness. They execute clinical excellence through daily managed care for every case that is seen at the center."

People with wounds that have not improved with traditional methods of treatment may benefit from a visit to Chester County Hospital Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center. Please contact (610) 738-2590 to learn more.
