As a community-oriented hospital, Chester County Hospital believes that its social responsibility goes beyond its campus. "We are as committed to high quality compassionate care for our patients as we are to our community," says Jackie Felicetti, Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development (HROD) at Chester County Hospital, which is part of Penn Medicine. "As servant leaders, our team seeks to enrich the lives of others by serving people in need."

Chester County Hospital's HROD Department received an Award of Excellence for Social Responsibility at the 2014 Delaware Valley HR Department of the Year Awards banquet. Steve Highsmith of PHL17 was the master of ceremonies for the November 20 awards program, which was created to recognize outstanding human resources departments in the region.

The hospital family, through the leadership of the HROD department, has embraced the missions of and partnered with organizations such as United Way, Wounded Warrior Project, Safe Harbor, American Red Cross Blood Drive, Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, Maternal-Child Health Consortium, Home of the Sparrow, Cancer Awareness, Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children, West Chester Food Cupboard and Wings of Success.

To acknowledge the most recent effort, Chester County Hospital invited employees, physicians, volunteers, family and friends to "A Night to Salute our Veterans" at the VFW in West Chester on November 7, 2014 to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project. The beef-and-beverage event, which welcomed 100+ guests, featured music, dancing, a 50/50 raffle and food prepared by its Nutrition Services Department. Prior to the event, the planning committee - led by Nancy Canfield of HROD - sold bracelets and chocolate bars as additional ways to raise money. Plus, the team received a Penn Medicine CAREs Grant to add to its effort of empowering veterans. The night of the social event, VFW Post 106 surprised the event leadership with an additional $10,000 donation for the Wounded Warrior Project, bringing the total contribution to nearly $13,000.

In addition, the HROD team collaborates and leads community service projects under the hospital's home-grown philanthropic program Days of Caring, Days of Warmth several times each year.

Felicetti adds, "Days of Caring, Days of Warmth has succeeded by leading others in the generous collection of warm clothing. The enthusiastic spirit of our workforce is evident by the large number of donations of food, backpacks, school supplies, blankets, gift cards and toiletries. It's a fulfilling feeling to know that our efforts are serving and providing for our community. This is the connection we seek; it is who we are."

About the Delaware Valley HR Department of the Year Awards
The Delaware Valley HR Department of the Year was founded in 1998 by Scott Rosen, President of the Rosen Group. His belief was that HR professionals should receive recognition for what they do and the growth and change they produce within their organizations. As the prestige of the Delaware Valley HR Department of the Year has grown, and just as many of our winners have managed change and positive growth, we are pleased to enjoy the additional partnership of TRION (John Forde) and Challenger Gray and Christmas (David Pinette).
