First Philadelphia suburban hospital to offer this leading edge, single-site robotics advancement

The Chester County Hospital and Health System is pleased to offer single-incision robotic assisted surgery. Patients requiring laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) may be eligible for Single-Site surgery utilizing the Intuitive da Vinci Si robot and a single incision through the naval.

Since launching its robotics program in 2012, the Hospital has performed more than 500 robotic procedures with excellent outcomes. The addition of Single-Site builds upon this success and leadership position in robotic surgery, and offers patients a less invasive, and potentially less difficult and safer option for gallbladder surgery.

The surgical procedure uses a single incision through the patient's navel to remove the gallbladder and enables surgeons to reduce the traditional 4 to 6 small incisions to one less than an inch in length. The da Vinci Si robotic system allows our surgeons to see the operative field in crisp, sharp 3D high definition images versus 2D images on traditional laparoscopic monitors. This substantially improves a surgeon's vision, control, and precision.

In addition to Single-Site gallbladder surgery, The Chester County Hospital and Health System offers robotic surgery for prostate, kidney, gynecologic oncology, urology and gynecology procedures. In the coming months, the Hospital and Health System expects to add Single-Site robotic assisted hysterectomy.
