Proceeds from the FORE Health Invitational Help The Chester County Hospital's Tiniest Patients

(West Chester, PA) - A devout family man, PGA Pro Sean O'Hair resides in Chester County, PA with his wife and four children. He has designated Chester County Hospital as one of his charities of choice for the quality health services it provides to women and children. His two youngest children were born at the Hospital.

With his participation and support over the years, the Hospital's FORE Health Invitational - October 17, 2011 at White Manor Country Club - has grown in size and has lead to the purchase of four significant pieces of proven technology to benefit women and children's health at Chester County Hospital.

This past year, as a result of Sean's generosity at the outing and the dedication of the organizers - JoAnna and Andy Benton, Sarah and Brian Mears, and the Willistown Branch of the Women's Auxiliary - Chester County Hospital was able to procure 20 Neopuff Infant T-Piece Resuscitators for the newborns in its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This proven equipment by Fisher & Paykel Healthcare allows nurses to regulate how much breath is inhaled by an infant who needs help breathing just after they are born. The machine provides a consistent amount of pressure and air going into the infant's lungs, so the appropriate breathing rate is monitored and regulated.

Fran Doyle, RN, MSN, CNML, Director, Maternal Child Services, says, "We have been able to purchase a Neopuff machine for every bassinette in the NICU. This gives the nurses access to this life-saving equipment at their fingertips. Having equipment immediately available to help regulate a baby's breathing, if needed, makes a world of difference."

In its earliest year, the outing supported the purchase of a Giraffe OmniBed for the NICU. This innovative bed is a full-featured incubator and radiant warmer combined. According to its manufacturer - GE - its unique attributes, like a rotating pressure-diffusing mattress and digital integration, minimizes the amount of unnecessary bed-to-bed transitions for critical care newborns in the NICU. All levels of care can be managed in the Giraffe bed.

The golf outing also allowed for the purchase of the GEM Premier 4000, which "revolutionized blood testing at the bedside," according to its creators, Instrumentation Laboratory. For the babies of the NICU, this proven lab technology helps prevent human and system errors for enhanced patient safety and care. It allows nurses to draw a minimal amount of blood from the babies to run all the tests they need, thereby reducing the amount of stress on the babies ... and their parents.

Finally, the Labor and Delivery Unit received Hill-Rom's Affinity 4 Birthing Beds to make for a more comfortable birthing process for mothers and a seamless transition from a labor bed to a delivery bed for their nurses. These beds are designed for safety and convenience with transitional parts that provide a comfortable birthing position and experience.
