Viruses such as RSV, influenza and others pose a significant health risk to premature infants, resulting in additional morbidity and mortality. Masking is an additional tool at our disposal to help protect our patients. As the rates of viral infection are rising in our community, we need to implement changes within The Moore Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to keep your baby safe.

We are modifying our masking policy within the NICU. Effective February 7, 2025, staff members will wear masks while caring for your infant and it is strongly recommended that families also wear masks in the interest of protecting our fragile patients.

Masks will not be required in the hallways, lounges, waiting or meeting areas.

The current NICU visiting policy allows both parents (or otherwise designated support person with the second baby bracelet) to be at a baby's bedside together.

Parents are permitted to bring visitors. NICU policy limits 2 people to the bedside at a time, so when an additional visitor is present, only one parent can also be at the bedside.

Of course, if you do not feel well, do not come to the hospital. We understand how difficult it is to be separated from your baby, and the reason for these measures are to keep your baby as safe as possible.

Thank you again for your understanding. We appreciate your help and cooperation during these challenging times.
