Radiation Oncology is a medical specialty that utilizes different forms of radiation to safely and effectively treat cancer and other diseases. Radiation treatment is used to treat cancer, to control the growth of cancer, and to relieve pain and other symptoms. Recent advances in radiation technology are allowing a higher quality of life while minimizing side effects. Radiation therapy may be used alone or in combination with other treatments, such as surgery or chemotherapy.
Penn Radiation Oncology Center at West Chester provides state-of-the-art evaluation, the latest treatments, and extensive follow-up care. Our center is jointly operated with Penn's Department of Radiation Oncology, and our services are provided under the direction of full-time Penn physicians. Long a national leader in the development of advanced radiation treatment, Penn was the first facility of its kind to use an innovative technique that targets radiation precisely to a tumor, sparing normal tissue. Penn was also the first with a system that is able to continuously monitor the accuracy of radiation delivery.
Our areas of specialization include brain, breast, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and prostate, colorectal, gynecologic, head, neck, and lung cancers. In addition to treating patients with cancer, we also treat those with benign (noncancerous) diseases that can also benefit from radiation treatment.
